How to Feed a Leopard Gecko from Your Hand

Container of powder held in hands, with an open lid.

If you have a leopard gecko, they will probably be willing to eat straight from your hand. Do this with meal worms and wax worms, and you could try with crickets, but remember that most geckos only eat things if they move, and a live cricket will probably not stay in your hand long enough for a leopard gecko to finish inspecting and actually get around to eating.

Put the food on your hand, fingertip, or arm. Make sure that the lizard will be able to reach it, however.

Place your lizard behind the food, so that they are directly facing it nose on.

Know that if they begin to look at the prey closely, that means they are interested and will probably eat it. If they walk away, turn their head, or step on the food, they are not interested. Maybe you should try again later.

Apple's iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates are packed with new features, and you can try them before almost everyone else. First, check Gadget Hacks' list of supported iPhone and iPad models, then follow the step-by-step guide to install the iOS/iPadOS 26 beta — no paid developer account required.
